Reiki and Shifting Attitudes Around Cancer

When I was diagnosed with cancer 9 years ago, what I first noticed was the fear that is associated with it. Totally understandable. The fear in the doctor’s voice when she told me over the phone. The fear I felt in my gut when I heard the news. The look on my husband’s face when I hung up the phone.

What if we could approach it right from the beginning with a sense of positivity? Some of you may shake your heads or think it depends……I have seen the power of this attitude work on people with stage 4 cancer. The whole family can be involved and those who surround them.

Where does this start? At the doctor’s office. I speak from experience when I say the first order of business is the doctor preparing the patient for the worst case scenario. This is how they prepared me: “Expect pain, hair loss, loss of appetite, nausea, lack of energy, possible job loss if too many days/months are required to recuperate.” Basically, they were telling me, “Expect hell to take over your body and live with the uncertainty that once we remove it, there is no promise that it will not return.”

What if I said, excuse my language, “Fuck that!”? What if we all said that when doctors give some sort of death sentence or negative, hopeless outlook? What if the whole family said it??? And what if doctors did some research and were able to provide their patients with options, alternative therapies, alternative attitudes for that matter?

I’ll tell you what would happen. Hope, Empowerment, Faith, Trust, Courage, LIFE! Life would happen people. There are many choices out there that can shift the outcome, that can even put a positive spin on such an experience. And not only for the patient but for EVERYONE involved. Family, caretakers, counselors, nurses, and yes, even doctors.

What I chose, after doing my own research that first week of diagnosis, was a complementary medicine, meaning a therapy that aids any other form of treatment, was Reiki. This is a Japanese form of gentle hands-on healing that simply relaxes the stressed out, anxious body and mind. This allows the receiver of Reiki to take a break from the energy of fear and sorrow and hopelessness that surrounds cancer. Result of being able to relax? The body can do what it needs to in order to begin healing itself. Reiki can also be used to calm those who are supporting the patient. This is very important when establishing a healing community.

Reiki is for absolutely everyone. It does not have to be someone with cancer. Any illness, any reason for someone needing to relax, to feel better, to help with emotional pain. Reiki is simple and gentle. The hands-on aspect creates a nurturing, comforting sensation many need during such shocking life changes. Reiki prepares the body physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

So, rather than just focusing on the sickness, loss, and pain from the traditional form of  ‘treatments’, I call for the patient to become her own advocate, her own source of hope and motivation. Begin with a positive, brave attitude and order some Reiki! Now, that would be a prescription that would really benefit the masses.

If you would like to learn more about how Reiki and I can assist you with your healing, and facing the journey ahead of you, please visit me at www.InsyncEnergy.com. We can chat for a free 20 minute consultation or you can schedule a Reiki session and test it out for yourself.

What I want people to understand is that there are options. It doesn’t have to be JUST preparing for the worst. Research and find what resonates with you. Let’s do our homework and share with our doctors. Let’s bring to their attention that they can help turn this game around, too.

Reiki is also for animals experiencing pain, illness, stress, or life changes.

Blessings to you and may you find peace and support in all of your life’s experiences.

Love, Darlene

6 Tips to Reconnect To Your Intuition

Image   You know that feeling, a strong pull in your gut, an inner voice giving you advice. Your intuition. Intuition is a knowing without having to research the reasoning behind it. This is inner knowledge you can feel your body connect with that, without too much energy and contemplation, simply clicks. We are all born with an inner knowing and our bodies are designed to inform us of this connection and realization immediately without the need for conscious reasoning. I keep reading intuition is like a muscle. If you practice using it, it expands and develops to become a stronger part of who you are. The more it develops, the more you begin trusting what it is telling you. Really, what YOU are telling you. Here are 6 steps you can take that help to exercise and reconnect with that part of you that sometimes goes underused and undervalued: 1) Meditate Give yourself time weekly, if not daily, to sit quietly. Discover your own form of meditation. 2) Reiki ***(receiving Reiki sessions and learning how to do self-Reiki treatments) My favorite. This form of healing and energy work supports your life force energy within, tapping directly into your intuition which is the mind to body connection. The flow of life force energy that Reiki generates awakens a tangible sensation within your body. Even though it may be quiet and subtle, it is a divine form of communication from your heart to your brain. 3) Practice gratitude Before going to sleep each night, consider what you have to be thankful for in this life 4) Spend time outside If there is ever going to be a surefire way and time to connect to an inner voice, outdoors where the senses come alive is the ticket 5) Be creative Write, paint, pick up some clay, dance, put a collage together of beautiful pictures and give rise to your imagination 6) Yoga Some of the poses encourage the third eye chakra to open up, the emotional center for intuitive thoughts ***To learn more about Reiki, tap onto this link and begin tapping into your inner knowing: www.InsyncEnergy.com

The Healing Power of the Smile

Image

It has been a while since I’ve come here to my blog. I sometimes become overwhelmed by all of the forms of technology there are to take away my physical and emotional energy. Depletion of this energy is so common among all of us as social media, T.V., video games, movies, etc flood our lives. We often don’t even realize it’s happening or why we feel so fatigued, drained, suffering from headaches and short tempers.

Hence, the motivation for the theme for the next four weeks of blog posts: Little Surefire Ways to Raise Your Energy Big.

One pretty for sure way to re-energize, or to regain your composure, might not be the first idea you think of when discussing how to restore your supply of energy and start the healing process out of a funk. It is simply…..The Smile.

Why?

A few facts about how smiles affect your emotions, making you feel happier, therefore, increasing your energy level: Try them!

1. The muscles you use when you smile actually sends a message to your brain, causing your brain to release ‘happy feeling’ endorphins

2. The smile and feeling ‘happy signals’ boost your immune system

3. Smiling reduces stress (especially when you mean it!)

4. Wearing a smile is a double whammee step towards feeling better. Not only does it physically and emotionally contribute to raising your mood; it will also do so for whomever your smile is directed!

And, of course, when you smile, it makes people wonder what you’ve been up to ;-).

Join me this week as I ask for your assistance on my facebook page https://www.facebook.com/InsyncEnergy in spreading smiles and healing across the planet. Please add pictures and quotes to the blog or facebook page that make you smile and what you think would cause others to smile. Let’s raise the vibration of all our friends one smile at a time. Thank you for your time and love!

Always 13 When Visiting Home

As many of us experience, sometimes visiting family can be quite shocking to the system-energetically and emotionally. Even if it is just because there is a change in our normal routine, the whole body can be sent out of wack, spiraling downward into a puddle of mush on the floor. That is where I found myself this morning.

With each return after a visit home as an adult, it is taking a shorter amount of time for me to readjust back to ‘normalcy’. We grow and change and sometimes our family likes things the way they are, well, were. I decided to stop trying to make them change, to see things my way. I love them how they are and I recognize offering health or wellness advice creates much anxiety for them. Rather than making it a battle trying to convince them of all I learned during and after cancer, I must just be there and just BE when I visit.

It isn’t easy though. But I have stopped trying to prove anything or force my opinions on them. And no matter how much I’ve grown, or how I behave when I am 3,000 miles away, there is something about being with family, those who knew me as I was, that makes me revert right back to childhood behaviors. The lack of confidence bubbles back up to the surface, the fears and doubts of my adult choices rush back into my head and gut.

Each visit I believe I can avoid returning to my 13 year old self. But by day 3, there she is, shy, frightened, doubtful 13 year old Dar. I cry, yell, and wave my hands around when my perspective is overlooked. I grow impatient and frustrated and short tempered. And then it happens. Mom cries. And reminds me how she only gets to see me twice a year and she never knows when will be the last time because I live so far away and……. I didn’t give her grandchildren. Then the Jewish guilt rolls in like a tsunami!

I spend the evenings repeating in my head that I am the best daughter I can be while I live the life that is best for me. If I lived the life my mom wanted me to (which I actually did try to do!), I would live right around the corner from her in a town that is really for senior citizens, have a kid or 2, and would probably still be a teacher. In other words, I would be miserable living the life she dreams for me (for her). Healthy for absolutely no one. Which is why I cannot do exactly what she wants. Which is why, during each visit, I succumb to Jewish guilt, not being the daughter my mom was for her mom. I accept it now but still feel her disappointment.

I come home to my husband and dogs carrying a boulder on my back. Returning to my life usually takes a long time and literally feels like stepping out of a black hole all discombobulated and living the lives of the childhood Dar and the adult healthier Darlene. Day one or 2 is the big release, about an hour of crying and letting it all out. I pay tribute to the child who continues to reappear, asking for healing and unconditional love. She was always loved, just so overprotected that she was taught and learned to be fearful of everything and anything. I teach her that it’s ok to step out of what everyone else is doing but she does get reprimanded by her mom. I continue to role model for her, regardless of what her family tells her. And I certainly keep making mistakes. But I can tell her that’s ok to do. That’s experiencing life. That’s stepping out so that each time she does, it is less and less scary and more and more exciting. That’s where learning takes place.

Now, my biggest lesson was having cancer. If it had been up to my mom, obviously, it wouldn’t have happened. However, if it hadn’t, I would not have discovered my life’s purpose, my intuitive gifts, my abilities to help others heal and laugh and grow and find their life’s purpose. I can’t imagine not having had that experience 8 years ago, who I would be right now, not having the life or friends I have or the most important knowledge and wisdom that came from what happened. I take that perspective when I start feeling guilty about not being able to do what mom says would make her happy. Sometimes we have to go through uncomfortable circumstances to learn and grow and also be able to relate to the rest of the world.

I am happy for the good, bad, and ugly. I am thankful for going home and having that child resurface so I can heal her and grow stronger as an adult. I love my family and understand each visit will be an opportunity for hopefully all of us to learn and grow. I am lucky for people who love me so much, who want me close by, who want to hold me and never let me go. My mom is a Jewish mother angel who I know is and will always be there for me no matter what, even if I didn’t give her grandchildren ;-).

TIPS FOR VISITING FAMILY:

BREATHE

USE YOUR TIME IN THE BATHROOM AS YOUR QUIET SANCTUARY (ALTHOUGH MY MOM TALKS THROUGH DOORS)

COUNT TO 10. OR 20 IF YOU HAVE TO

Caring For Your Personal Energy

energy field

You can take control of the quality of your life, vitality, and health simply by understanding and improving how you care for your energy system. March at Insync Energy is about defining and taking care of your energy body. This actually starts OUTSIDE of your physical body with what is known as your energy field. What is your energy field? It is the electromagnetic pulse your physical body radiates outward like an outer layer of skin that adds an extra layer of protection. This is one area that can be considered when wanting to care for your own energy system. Animals, and the early human, use this as a tool to sense what is going on around us-it gives us feedback from our environment.

Since the energy field is electromagnetic, it can attract other energy. The result is attracting all energy that you encounter, the good, the bad, the ugly. This is where we can begin with caring for our energy body, being aware of when it needs cleaning and clearing and how to protect IT like it protects us. Here are some tips that can assist you with cleansing and strengthening your electromagnetic energy field, because if you don’t, you risk impairing your body physically and emotionally.

1. Imagine that you are a tree and you pull energy up from the Earth and down from the sun. Then expand that energy out around you.

2. Take a shower and imagine the water cleansing your field of all stagnant energies or energies that aren’t your own.

3. Be in nature and natural light at least an hour every day.

4. Bring your awareness into your heart. Think of something or someone that makes you feel love, happiness, joy and/or appreciation. Let those feelings spread through you into the space around you.

The energy healing techniques I offer at Insync Energy and Intuitive Self-Care can provide clearing, cleansing, and harmonizing your entire energy system for optimal health of your body, mind, and soul. My healing sessions take you on a soul journey where you take a look at where your body, mind, and energy require clearing. Once we have a keener sense of what is the core of your needs, we can clear the vulnerable issues that weaken your energy system and heal and strengthen those areas that actually took physical form somewhere in or around your physical body.

Energy Work, techniques that help you locate, identify, and potentially heal and remove what ails the body, is a unique, yet effective, modality that can uncover the source of imbalance, illness, and weakness unlike any other traditional practice. There is always a cause, the beginning of any imbalance in the body. It usually starts as unresolved emotions around specific events. The journeying and guided meditation I begin my sessions with take you to the core of where it all began, sometimes infancy, childhood, even past lives!

Please follow this month’s blog as I continue to expand on what is your energy system, why it affects your health, and how I can help you clear and maintain a healthy and radiant life.

Brave and Unstoppable

Dar in Lincoln City OR edit06[1]

Being brave can mean making big changes or taking small steps. It is an individual experience as I have learned during the  Get Your Brave On event I started in the beginning of the month, here and on facebook. I read so many profound and emotional stories many people shared with me about stepping outside of their comfort zone, even if it was scary.

We are ALL brave. Everyone of us has taken a leap of faith, an uncertain step in a different direction, have made a choice others insisted we shouldn’t. On this blog post, the final one in the Brave series, I interview an inspiring woman, a determined business strategist, Anna Long, from Electric Empire. Anna was brave when she quit her job to become an entrepreneur and now assists others on that same mighty track.

This month’s series was about finding your brave, making more out of your life by stepping out of your box and into the world with gusto and faith.

I first met Anna Long when she came into my office for a Energetic Reboot Healing. Anna is dynamic, shining her smile and light into the world.

Anna, would you please share, What is the bravest act, the scariest step you have taken thus far to step out of your own comfort zone?

The scariest thing I’ve done to step into my brave is quit my job to pursue my intuitive business strategy. I’m a sucker for “security”, so letting go of a sure thing for a not-so-sure thing was terrifying. It wasn’t like I didn’t plan and strategize for the move (I did for about 9 months), but this only made it slightly less scary.

What lead up to that decision, time, research, leap of faith, and what emotions came up for you before you did it?

Honestly I felt like ALL of those things came up for me! When I launched my first business I held a job the entire time. It was a business I didn’t want to work at full-time, so quitting my job didn’t have quite the pull. When I grew into my intuitive biz strategy role I knew of a very deep (soul) level that there was no way I could remain at my job and become a successful business owner. Holding a job no longer jived with my pursuits and values. So I mapped out an exit plan and about 9 months later left my job, got married, and traveled around Asia for 2 months with my husband. I went out with a bang!

Describe how it felt once you took your step, or leap.

Right after I quit I was offered a small contract working with that same company (making over double my previous salary). It wasn’t many hours or anything, but it did help the transition. My “joblessness” didn’t hit until I was in the middle of SE Asia. Waves of anxiety would hit at night sometimes…but then they were often followed my huge creative days where I KNEW that everything would work out.

My new life was in TOTAL alignment with my spirit (for the first time ever) and this began to shine through in my writing and I began to get more clients who felt my enthusiasm and authenticity.

As a leading edge intuitive entrepreneur, helping other women create or expand THEIR dream businesses, what advice would you give them BEFORE they take that first, perhaps scary, step into self-entrepreneurship?

This is a great question Darlene, because when I went through it…I felt like everyone had this “Quit immediately…or else!” attitude…like building a business without another job was the ONLY way to go. It’s not! How you decide to grow your business is just as unique as the business itself.

Assess what you NEED to be most creative. I’m a highly creative person and I attribute 80% of my success in business to my creativity. The thing is, if I’m freaking out about money, a doom set’s in and I can’t think creatively at all. So I knew I had to work and save as much as possible to get to the point where I could leave. On the other hand, some people operate best under a lot of pressure. If that is you, then it’s possible to save up and launch with less of a security net than what most people would need.

I personally think it’s silly NOT to start your business while you have a job. It’s the PERFECT time to build strong business foundations and test things out with a steady paycheck coming in.

Do YOU continue to take brave action even though you already have a successful, might I add, brilliant consulting business?

Ah, thanks so much Darlene! Being brave shows up on the daily. Once you get to know me I’m a dynamic goofball, but I actually struggle with being an introvert. My husband and I just moved to Mexico for the Winter and each time I open my mouth to speak my limited Spanish or smile at someone I don’t know I feel a little brave.

Each time I “put myself out there” to be judged or accepted I feel brave. Each time I publish my writing or blog posts I feel brave. To me, being brave is the act of doing something that doesn’t necessarily come naturally to you (even if only for a moment). It’s walking through unchartered territory and getting to the other side with a sigh of relief and (hopefully) a smile on your face!

You’re my business mentor, a supportive and extremely knowledgeable teacher. Do you sometimes want to hide in the sand or get discouraged? Who is someone who inspires and encourages you to keep moving forward and making brave choices in business and life?

Yes, I totally go through waves of “retreat” and discouragement. It’s normal. Entrepreneurs have ups and downs just like anyone else! I can’t say that I have one person that inspires or encourages me to keep moving forward when I hit a bump in the road…it’s more a “community” of people. I have a few great friends I turn to (some are other female entrepreneurs) and sometimes family. My husband ALWAYS has my back and is my rock whenever I start to doubt or question myself.

And whenever discouragement hits, I usually realize that I have allowed myself to mentally drift away from what matters most to me. Everyone starts their business for two reasons: 1. The life THEY want to live AND 2. The life they want their customers and clients to live. If you focus too much on one and not the other, things will get messy and there will be a disconnect. I always remind myself of this when things begin to feel out of whack.

How did an Energetic Reboot Healing with me at Insync Energy assist you on your path as a busy entrepreneur and radiant woman?

When I had my first Energetic Re-boot Healing session I was blown away by what was uncovered in my guided visualization. You could say that I literally came face to face with my self-imposed mental blocks that were holding me back financially. In a matter of 15 minutes I understood on a very deep level that my challenges were a choice…and the I had the option to choose otherwise.

Darlene’s ability to communicate with my guides was amazing. I saw where I was limiting myself and was given useful tools, places, and environments to help keep me balanced moving forward. The Reiki and chakra balancing were like a warm blanket that surrounded me for weeks after our initial session.

It’s easy to get wrapped up in our businesses…this session was a reminder that my business is a tool for a better life…not my sole purpose for living!

Thank you so much, Anna, for being brave and supporting others as they take their leaps of faith into the world! We all need role models, a strong foundation, and encouragement for when the ride is bumpy. I am thrilled that I was able to also assist you on your path when you were looking for clarity and balance.

Insync Energy was my leap of faith, helping guide people to their own inner brave heart and determined soul. What NOT To Avoid, Be Brave

Dar in Lincoln City OR edit06[1]

Get Your Brave On! event for February continues! Keep visiting https://www.facebook.com/events/398956176906475/ to join and follow the community of fellow bravehearts!

What do you think is the scariest phone call or visit to make for a cancer survivor? You guessed it, a doctor’s office! Now, one might think, “Geez, if you’ve already been there, wouldn’t you know better how important that is?”

Well, yes, I do. However, no one wants to hear that they’re sick, needing medical attention immediately nevermind hearing it twice. That is a dilemma I face often. My mom asks weekly, “Have you had your first mammogram yet, Darlene? You know it can save your life. Please get one. I had cancer. Both your grandmothers had it. Please!”

Even before I did research on the benefits and hazards of mammograms, I would take that referral from my doctor and carry it around with me for months in fear of what might actually turn up if I went. It would end up in the trash. It took me two years, well, maybe a bit longer, to visit the dermatologist after my melanoma and lymph node removal surgeries. Yup. This was traumatic for my whole family and husband the longer I kept putting off a mole patrol. Nothing is now more terrifying for me than a visit to the doctor’s office.

And to make matters worse, I eat everything bad for me when I know I have to do something I don’t want to do. This recently had really gone way out of control. The more sugary foods I ate, the more I wanted. I’ve been gluten free for almost 2 years and started to slowly add it back into my diet. Oh my goodness, the taste of ciabatta bread with butter again! Heavenly…….

Result, ugh. Fatigue, migraines came back, sluggish, no motivation, and down right felt like shit! For months!

Well, my friends, I got my brave on and finally went to the doctor. Luckily, I found an amazing physician and this is key to our health. I’ve had at least 10 since I’ve lived in Portland. This week I started a whole new regiment and it is TOUGH but is going to be so worth it. Life, feeling better, knowing I am truly taking care of my body in all ways, not just energetically. I have been off sugar now for 3 days and although I am craving a huge piece of tiramasu, I gotta hang in there because if I don’t, sugar is what equals cancer. And I sure as hell don’t want to go through that again!

There are all kinds of things our bodies are telling us, not just one as simple and obvious as STOP EATING SO MUCH SUGAR. What is most important is that we stop and listen to our bodies and I recommend doing it before it gets out of control like my sugar addiction did. I kept hearing SUGAR=CANCER. I am doing well but would not have to be going through sugar withdrawal if I had paid attention sooner.

So, bravehearts, be brave, listen to your body, and act when it tells you to. That inner voice, that’s your intuition talking to you, your soul wanting you to live and thrive and take care of yourself. Being brave is being smart.

Exercise #4 for our Get Your Brave On! is do something in the next 3 days that you really find scary but know you must face. Is your body telling you something you are ignoring? Is there an issue on the back burner causing stress the longer it is left unresolved. Inhale. Exhale. Consider how to move forward. Your first step can simply be writing down an approach. Make a list of how you can undertake this project. Call in your heavenly guidance and trust. Be brave, be strong, and know you are always loved and supported.
